In their words: "As you know, the statue had been painted white and the paint was flaking off. I was hopeful that during the removal process I’d find traces of the original paint, but my expectations have been far exceeded. It’s a very slow process, but so far we’ve managed to uncover the faces of St. Ann and Mary. There are traces of the original paint scheme on the robes that are very similar to the cover image of the St. Ann novena prayer book, and we’ve even uncovered traces of gold leaf! "There are holes on the top of both heads, suggesting that there were nimbi attached at some point. It’s been really exciting to see what’s revealed after hours of gentle scraping. Attached are a few photos, including one where I’m holding up a couple of halos if you want me to add them. The halos are too big (I had them from another job), but this gives you an idea of what it would look like."
