St. Ann Boy Scout Troop 100 includes more than 20 scouts ranging in age from 11 to 18 who come from private, public, charter, and home schools. We meet on Wednesday evenings in the Collins Room beginning at 7:15pm. We enjoy monthly camping trips and week-long summer camps and our scouts have opportunities to earn merit badges, volunteer in the community, do high adventure trips, and take on leadership roles in the troop. Thank you to all of our parishioners who supported our annual Pancake Breakfast and Tree sale.
We just celebrated our 145th, 146th, and 147th Eagle Scouts in an Eagle Court of Honor. Each Eagle completed a service project, along with advancement, leadership, merit badges, and high adventure backpacking trips out west at the Philmont, New Mexico scout ranch. Each of these Eagles served the troop as Senior Patrol Leader, which is a significant amount of responsibility for leading the troop.
Daniel Snee is a graduate of St. John’s College High School and was an active member of their Cadet Corp program. He is an active St. Ann parishioner, having served as an altar server, Youth Group member, and PSR assistant teacher. He began his scouting career as a cub scout in Pack 61/100 and completed all his requirements through to Eagle. His Eagle project included building 15 growing beds for the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild greenhouse. This allows the Franciscan Monastery to grow additional vegetables that they donate to local area food banks. Daniel is headed to Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia to study communications and participate in ROTC. Daniel is Troop 100’s 145th Eagle, joining his brother, Patrick, who was the 142nd Eagle.
Alex Penberthy is a graduate of Wilson High School and was an active member of their JROTC program. He is headed to the Texas A&M University to study International Affairs and Chinese. Alex will be part of the school’s Corp of Cadets and take Army ROTC. He began his scouting career in cub scouts and completed all the steps through to Eagle. Alex’s Eagle project was to help the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild create 9 additional growing beds in their greenhouse. This allows the Franciscan Monastery to grow additional vegetables that they donate to local area food banks. Alex is Troop 100’s 146th Eagle.
D’Jhanir Harris Smith is a graduate of DC’s School Without Walls and is headed to the University of Chicago to study economics and political science. He joined the troop a little later than most scouts, starting at age 14. Through hard work and perseverance, he completed all of his requirements in record time before his 18th birthday. His Eagle project was to help St. Ann create a safer place to park along the alley entrance (go and see!). D’Jhanir stated, “I’ve heard many people complain about the lack of space in this parking lot, and the danger that causes, so I felt like I should take charge and try to solve it. It brings me pride and joy to see this change happening." D’Jhanir is Troop 100’s 146th Eagle.
