Susan AtLee Walker grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland, in a family that regularly attended All Saints Episcopal Church at Chevy Chase Circle. She was graduated from B-CC High School and Sweet Briar College, and taught high school mathematics. She later earned a Masters degree in Linguistics at Gallaudet University (in DC), did work toward a PhD in Linguistics at the University of Maryland’s College of Arts and Humanities, and taught at Gallaudet. [She is fluent in both American Sign Language and British Sign language.] Upon retirement, Susan and her husband moved to rural Virginia where Susan became a fabric and bead artist. Susan converted to Catholicism in 2013. She and her husband have been members of Saint Ann’s since returning to the District in 2008.
