6 ways to boost your email engagement
Email communication. These days, you're doing a lot of that, but is your communication as effective as it could be? Here are a few quick tips adapted from the Archdiocese of Washington and Sleeknote to help you improve your click through rate.
1. Start By Setting a Clear Goal With Each Email. Your goal might be sharing information about an event, or connecting parishioners with resources. Knowing your goal will allow you to more easily communicate with a purpose.
2. Use Strong Visuals. A picture is worth a thousand words. A great image in your email will grab more attention.
3. Eliminate Distractions. Clutter won’t do your click through rate any favors. Less is more, so let your calls to action be concise and easy to find.
4. Design Your Emails for Scanners. 79% of people scan content, and scanning is more prevalent for emails than for websites. Break your email into smaller pieces to digest. Give each piece a headline and keep the most important pieces toward the top. Avoid long chunks of text.
5. Use Buttons For Primary Calls to Action (And Text Links for Secondary CTAs). People love to push buttons. Use them to draw readers to your primary call to action, or the main action you want readers to take when reading the email (such as clicking a link to the parish website, donating, or signing up for something). Stick with text links for less important, secondary CTAs.
6. Practice Email Scrubbing. Unengaged subscribers do you no good, so scrub your list at least once a year. Send out a message to those who aren't opening your emails, asking if they still want to be contacted or if there is a better way to reach them.
