A few months ago, I shared with you my cancer story and the impact it has had on my life. Shortly after that pulpit announcement, Monsignor Watkins suggested that we launch a parish-wide ministry for people with cancer and cancer survivors.
This ministry will provide spiritual accompaniment and support for people with cancer, cancer survivors, as well as those who care for them. Cancer is one of the most difficult challenges an individual can face. With a cancer diagnosis, life changes dramatically for them . . . both physically and emotionally. This is a tough journey for anyone, and no individual should walk it alone.
The objective of this ministry will be to accompany people with this disease by listening compassionately to their stories and sharing our own. As I have stated before, the cancer journey is complex and different for everyone.
The topics we will cover will include stigma, treatment, recovery, companionship, self-care, and coping. All this is a reminder that you are not alone and that you have a parish community that will accompany you and pray with and for you.
Many of you with cancer have already shared your story with me privately. Your experience and mine together can help others on this journey. Our first meeting will be this Thursday, May 22nd, at 6:30pm in the Malta Library. Please join me as we reach-out to together to help others on this cancer journey.
When: Thursdays, 6:30pm, beginning May 22, 2025 Where: Malta Library (directions)
